Living the Question
This refined version of the DRRS Systems Sensing–Mapping Questionnaire is designed to inspire you to reflect and work with the provided questions here, where you are standing right now, while travelling, or at your home. This questionnaire booklet represents a cognitively engaging didactic tool for consciously attuning to oneself as part of, and within, complex systems. Connected to the theory–practice of Designing Resilient Regenerative Systems (DRRS), it supports navigating desirable change and (non)intervention in complexity—as a resource for curriculum development, a tool for shared inquiry, or simply your pocket companion.
This questionnaire is one of our didactic tools to practice systems thinking, scale-linking design, inner reflection, place-specific connection, bioregioning, resilience building, while it supports systemic design in general.

How to use
This questionnaire follows the didactic logic and theory–practice of change of the DRRS program: navigating desirable change and (non)intervention in complex systems. It supports connecting with systems as part of them—sensing qualitatively and mapping more analytically through different inquiry types represented in the Systemic Design Wheel of Inquiry.
The questionnaire is intended as a flexible systems sensing–mapping journey. It can support reflection, fieldwork, facilitation, curriculum development, leadership practice, and self-directed learning. Questions may be answered directly, explored collectively, researched more deeply, or simply left open—living the question.
Some questions can be engaged with spontaneously, while others require deeper framework knowledge, for example through the DRRS MOOC series, field research, or facilitation. Questions may therefore be marked with different levels of depth and complexity:
- Level 1* — spontaneous reflection and sensing
- Level 2** — deeper framework understanding and contextual research
- Level 3*** — facilitated fieldwork and advanced systemic inquiry
Make this booklet yours. Mark questions, create your own sequences, adapt it to your context, and use it as a companion for navigating complexity with yourself and others. We offer this field booklet as a printable .pdf document, while we prefer to use it in the form of a printed pocket “booklet”, as shown below, perfect to use in the field.
