Ostana

„A wild place with spectacular views on the Monte Viso, near the source of the great river Po,
embedded in a new kind of neighborhood, where change makers of today and tomorrow
gather for creating the revival of this mountain community and re-define modern Alpine life.“

History

The communiyt of Ostana has experienced a substantial crisis when the local population shrank from about 1300 to only 5 inhabitants at the end of the 20th century. Since the mid `80s, Ostana decided to build on the quality of architecture and landscape, and on knowledge and traditions as levers to reactivate the town.
Occitan is the traditional language spoken in Ostana. The name Occitan comes from the Romance lenga d'òc (i.e. òc language), which comes from òc, the Occitan word for yes.
For more information on Occitan Culture see www.chambradoc.it.

Today

Today, a new vibrant community of 40+ permanent residents has been reviving this unique place while the neighborhood is steadily growing; after 28 years, the first child was born again in 2016 and new artists, entrepreneurs, friends and families are joining to prototype the future of sustainable living in the mountains.
This has transformed Ostana into a pilot region for a new model of Alpine living and brought the town to the forefront of international chronicle.
