Regenerative Design Talks
RDT
The Monviso Regenerative Design Talks (RDT) are a new tool we started in 2019. The RDT are a collaborative workshop series focusing on the interconnected relationship of design, nature, the built environment and mountain identity in Ostana and beyond. RDT are our main Tool for Change for gaining local support and the acceptance of new technology.
In 2019 we organized four such talks, ranging from a collaborative workshop format to better cooperate between infrastructure projects in Ostana, to a public presentation on climate change impacts and global and local innovative climate solutions, to a student-driven biomimicry hiking event, to a hands-on building workshop to understand circular hemp systems.
Especially the 2nd RDT on climate change innovation was curated to form identity in a way to accept and support the above described PV roof and façade innovation at MVI. Luca Mercalli, highly popular Italian climatologist, reminded the audience on the speed and strength of climate change impacts on mountain communities, and the urge to act and innovate both in technology, consumption and habits. Ross Harding, a sustainable city innovator from Australia, opened the scope and scale on such innovations, showing examples from all over the world. Finally, Dario Toso of the MVI explained the implemented and proposed local, tangible solutions of the MVI.
In 2019,
the first RDT were offered in an experimental way, testing different topics and formats.
1st RDT: Bridging Synergies in Upcoming Development Projects of Ostana
2nd RDT: Climate Change - Renewable Energy and City Innovation for Climate Protection
3th RDT: Mindfulness and Innovation for Regenerative Community Resilience
4rd RDT: Designing Alpine-Urban Circularity with the ETHZ Systemic Design Labs course
5th RDT: Building and Designing with Hemp - Revival of a Forbidden Plant
In 2020,
we had to cancel the originally planned on-site RDT due to the Covid pandemic. but we still managed to offer a series of further RDT.
6th RDT: Social Impact Investing: Financing Local Sustainability Innovation Projects / a social evening with international minds from the US, arriving on backcountry skis from Chamonix, and local Occitan culture.
7th RDT virtual: Virtual design talk "System Reset"
Virtual platform Padlet
8th RDT: E-Mobility - Re-thinking integrated mobility in the Alpine
9th RDT: Opportunities for a Regional Circular Economy: Building resilience through new circular flows, The Politecnico Torino Master course 2019/20 in Systemic Design presents their assessment of opportunities for a circular economy in the High Po River Valley.
